To state the obvious, the snow this winter was horrible, but that doesn’t mean that our groomers still didn’t work hard for us. This year saw the addition of a huge asset for the Nordic community; snow making.

We started out doing 1 lap intervals with a three minute rest. The first was skating without ski poles, the second a doublepole-only lap, and the third a normal skate with poles.

Huron Meadows will be open for skiing on man-made snow this Friday (tomorrow) from noon - 8:00pm. The building will be open also, and they will be renting headlamps! They will also be open Saturday and Sunday. $5 trail fee to help pay for snowmaking.

Forty-five kids arrived at Huron Meadows at 8:00am, got their skis, and headed out to the start line to race in the first ever Frosty Freestyle Kids Race. Frosty the Snowman was their to cheer them on!

It WAS Krazy! Who holds a classic cross country ski race without set tracks? We do! Dan Yankus (Team NordicSkiRacer) added a second victory this weekend, and Tracy Hardin (Straits Striders) was the women's champion.

It was a hard race over a relatively flat course, with no place to rest and no place to hide. Conditions ranged from a foot of hard packed snow to icy-snow barely covering the grass. But the competition was spectacular.
